Don't Buy the Wrong A&D Scale: The EK-i Series Buyer's Guide
Share
The EK-i series is A&D's core personal electronic balance line — nine models spanning delicate gold weighing scales for jewelry to heavy-duty industrial weighing scales for multi-kilogram parcels. Two specs decide which one you need: capacity (how much it can weigh) and readability (how fine a reading it gives you). Within this series, the two don't always scale together — which is exactly where most buyers pick the wrong model.
The Full Lineup
| Model | Capacity | Readability |
|---|---|---|
| EK120I | 120g | 0.01g |
| EK200I | 200g | 0.01g |
| EK300I | 300g | 0.01g |
| EK410I | 400g | 0.01g (high resolution) |
| EK600I | 600g | 0.1g |
| EK610I | 600g | 0.01g (high resolution + counting mode) |
| EK1200I | 1200g | 0.1g |
| EK4100I | 4000g | 0.1g |
| EK6100I | 6000g | 0.1g |
The Key Thing to Notice: EK600I vs. EK610I
These two share the same 600g capacity but aren't interchangeable. The EK600I reads to 0.1g; the EK610I reads ten times finer at 0.01g and adds a counting mode. Need one-decimal precision only? The EK600I is the simpler, cheaper choice. Need finer resolution at the same capacity, or a way to count parts by weight? The EK610I is worth the upgrade.
The lesson carries through the rest of the line: capacity alone doesn't tell you the resolution. Check both numbers against what you're actually weighing before you buy.
Choosing by What You're Weighing
-
EK120I (120g / 0.01g) — the smallest and most precise-per-gram option in the line. Best as a 0.01g precision scale for individual small items where every hundredth of a gram matters. -
EK200I (200g / 0.01g) and
EK300I (300g / 0.01g) — the same fine resolution with more headroom, for slightly larger pieces or small groups of items. -
EK410I (400g / 0.01g) — the largest capacity in the line that still holds 0.01g readability. -
EK600I (600g / 0.1g) — once you're past 400g, resolution steps down to 0.1g. Fine for general use where sub-gram precision isn't required. -
EK610I (600g / 0.01g + counting) — the exception to the rule above: same 600g capacity as the EK600I, but with 0.01g precision and a built-in counting and comparator scale mode for verifying batches in quality control or manufacturing environments. -
EK1200I (1200g / 0.1g),
EK4100I (4000g / 0.1g), and
EK6100I (6000g / 0.1g) — for weighing well beyond small-item range: parcels, bulk material, larger equipment.
Which One Do You Need?
Start with what you're weighing, not how big it is. If precision to the hundredth of a gram matters — jewelry, small parts, or requiring a reliable laboratory balance for scientific samples — stay in the EK120I–EK410I range and pick the smallest capacity that comfortably covers your heaviest item. For general items over 600g where 0.1g precision is enough, move to the EK600I or above. And if you need both 600g-class capacity and 0.01g resolution — or you're counting items by weight — the EK610I is the only model built for that exact combination.
