Anest Iwata Spray Gun Guide: Which Model Fits Your Work
Share
Anest Iwata makes a genuinely large spray gun lineup, split across factory/industrial coating and automotive refinishing, and picking the right one mostly comes down to what you're spraying and how big the job is. This guide walks through the main product lines by use case so you're not guessing between model numbers.
A quick note on who we are: we ship Japanese tools and equipment directly from Japan to customers worldwide, using FedEx or DHL for international delivery. If you're ordering more than one item, reach out before checkout — we offer combined shipping, and we're happy to help you figure out which spray gun (or which accessories) actually fit your job before you buy.
Industrial & Factory Coating
If you're spraying automotive panels, metal, resin, or wood/furniture in a factory or workshop setting, Anest Iwata's industrial lineup covers this under a few series.
General-purpose work — the "just get one" choice
WIDER1 is the standard small gun for general-purpose spraying — automotive paint, metal, resin, wood, furniture — recommended for work areas under 150cm². WIDER2 is the same idea scaled up for areas over 150cm². If you don't have a specialized need yet and just want a solid all-rounder, this is the sensible starting point.
Center-cup, higher-viscosity paint
Same size split as WIDER1/2 (under vs. over 150cm²), but with a center-mounted cup (up to 600ml) instead of a side cup. Better suited to water-based paints and other higher-viscosity coatings.
Long-running standard series
These are Anest Iwata's long-selling mainstay guns — W-61 (since 1961) lets you adjust the pattern without releasing the trigger; W-71 and W-77 (1971 and 1977) are built around durability and ease of maintenance; LPH-80 is a compact center-cup gun (up to 150ml) for automotive paint, wood, metal, resin, and hobby work. If you want a proven, long-standing model rather than the newest release, this family is where to look.
Small, round-pattern detail work
An ultra-compact gun built specifically for round spray patterns — model kits, textile/fabric painting, arts and crafts, small DIY jobs, and touch-up work on tiny automotive imperfections.
Flagship large-format, low-emission spraying
Large pressure-feed guns tuned specifically for water-based and other environmentally-compliant coatings, with every component custom-engineered for the job. FT uses a straight nozzle, SP a V-slit nozzle. This is the high-end choice when you're spraying at scale and need to meet stricter emissions/VOC requirements.
Automotive Refinishing
Anest Iwata's KIWAMI and WS/LS-400 lines are purpose-built for auto body repair and refinish work, where the paint chemistry and finish quality matter more than general versatility.
Refinish spot and panel work
A small gravity-feed gun family tuned to specific nozzle sizes for specific paint types: 1.3mm for high-difficulty colors and color-clears, 1.4mm for clear at 5:1–3:1 mix ratios, 1.6mm for high-solid clear at 3:1–2:1 or primer-surfacer, 1.8mm aqua for water-based paint. The Kansai Paint version is co-developed and tuned specifically for Kansai's Retan PG Hybrid Eco/HS systems.
Water-based refinish, spot to full panel
Center-cup guns built around water-based automotive paint — primer-surfacer, solid, metallic, pearl, and color-clear — covering everything from a small spot repair up to a full panel. The WBX variant uses a slightly larger particle size than WB, making it better suited to low-humidity conditions where water-based paint dries too fast.
Flagship refinish gun
Anest Iwata's top-tier refinish gun, tuned for water-based basecoats, high-solid clear, and water-based clear. LS-400 sprays a larger particle size than WS-400, which resists evaporating too quickly — useful in low-humidity environments where you need the paint to stay wet longer during application.
A Note on Food-Grade Spray Equipment
Separately from the coating lineup above, Anest Iwata also makes food-liquid spray equipment — the FOG series — for spraying release oil, butter, soy sauce, egg wash, syrups, sauces, and similar food liquids, built to comply with Japan's Food Sanitation Act and positive-list system. It's a completely different product category from paint spray guns, worth knowing about if food service or bakery equipment is what you're actually after rather than a coating gun.
